From the NHS to professional sport and private practice, Jonathan Codling has spent his career solving the injuries other people find hard to fix.
Jonathan is a Consultant Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Musculoskeletal Sonographer working in private practice in Central London. His background spans NHS musculoskeletal services, private clinics, and consultancy work with professional football and rugby clubs — experience that shapes how he treats every patient, not just professional athletes.
He specialises in tendon injuries and problems of the foot, ankle and knee, while always assessing how the rest of the body — hips, spine, shoulders — contributes to an injury. A particular interest in running means he sees a lot of recurring and ‘I’ve tried everything’ cases: injuries that come back, or that standard physiotherapy hasn’t fully resolved.
What sets his approach apart is diagnostic ultrasound. Rather than relying on assessment alone, Jonathan can scan the injured area in the same appointment — point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) — to see what’s actually happening in the tissue, not just guess from symptoms. Combined with objective performance testing — force plate analysis, hand-held dynamometry, force frame and running analysis — this gives a level of diagnostic and testing precision that’s uncommon outside elite sport, now available to every patient he sees.
Every patient follows the same pathway: Assess, Diagnose, Measure, Improve, Perform. It’s the same rigour used with professional athletes, applied consistently to every case — because a clear diagnosis and an objective baseline shouldn’t be a luxury reserved for elite sport.
